Delhi Accident: Orgy of ‘death’ on the streets of Delhi! Drunken car rider crushes Zepto delivery boy, also accused of dragging him
New Delhi. The roads of the country’s capital Delhi have once again turned red due to high speed and intoxicating cocktails. A heart-wrenching road accident took place near Subhash Nagar metro station in West Delhi in the early hours of Saturday (21 February 2026). Here, a 27-year-old MCD contractor, under the influence of alcohol, hit a delivery agent riding an e-scooter with his speeding car. In this horrific accident, a 25 year old youth died tragically on the spot. Eyewitnesses and family members allege that after the collision the young man was dragged under the car for several meters. The death came from the wrong side and was dragged for several meters. According to the information given by the police, this tragic incident happened around 3.20 am on Saturday morning. Eyewitness Neeraj Kumar Pandey told the police that he had got down from the cab near Subhash Nagar metro station. Then a Hyundai Verna car came from Janakpuri at blinding speed, overtaking many vehicles. Near the signal, the car suddenly turned from right to left and hit the scooter of the delivery agent of quick commerce app ‘Zepto’ hard from behind. The collision was so severe that the young man jumped and fell on top of the car and then got dragged on the road. The car stopped after colliding with an iron pillar and a drain cover and shattering it. The accused were trying to escape, the public taught them a lesson. West Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sharad Bhaskar Darade said that the name of the accused driving the car is Mohit Kumar (27), who is a resident of Najafgarh and works as a contractor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). His friend Sanchit Dhar was also present in the car at the time of the accident. After the collision, both of them were trying to run away leaving their damaged car on the spot, but the passersby present there showed courage and caught them and handed them over to the police. Medical examination has confirmed that Mohit Kumar was heavily intoxicated. An FIR has been lodged at Tilak Nagar police station under sections 281, 106 of the BNS and section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act and he has been arrested. The only lamp of the house extinguished, the family in tears. This accident has ruined the world of a poor family living in Raghubir Nagar, West Delhi. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Hem Shankar. Hem Shankar was working in the night shift from 10 pm to 4 am in Zepto for the last one year. His family consists of his old mother Rukmani and two brothers. He was the only earning member of the entire family and was also bearing the expenses of his youngest brother Sameer’s education. He was on his way to deliver a customer’s order when the car masquerading as ‘Kaal’ crushed him. Doctors declared him dead after being taken to the hospital. Zepto management expressed grief, will get insurance of Rs 10 lakh. The spokesperson of e-commerce company Zepto has expressed deep condolences on this tragic incident. The company said in its official statement, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic road accident in New Delhi and our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We are fully cooperating with Tilak Nagar Police Station in this matter.” Zepto has also clarified that all their delivery partners are given an accidental insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh, which will provide some financial help to the victim’s family.
