Dispute over dance during wedding, groom’s brother stabbed to death, 7 arrested
On Saturday night, a wedding ceremony in Bhotidih village of Magarlod police station area of Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh became witness to a sensational incident. During the Chauthiya program, a fight over objection to the band took a violent turn. The groom’s brother Chandan Nishad died on the spot in the stabbing, while four others were seriously injured. Police have taken seven accused into custody, including two minors.
The people of the bride’s side from Malgaon in Gariaband district had reached Bhotidih with the traditional Chauthiya procession. People were moving towards the groom’s house dancing to the tunes of the band. Then the groom’s brother Chandan Nishad and his friends got into a heated argument with the musicians as they did not like the music.
As the dispute escalated, people of Baja Party took out knives and fatally attacked Chandan. Three-four friends including Tarun Dhruv, who came to his rescue, also became victims of the knife. The injured were admitted to Magarlod Health Center for treatment.
Getting CCTV footage of the incident helped the police a lot. On the complaint of Tetku Ram Nishad, Magarlod police reached the spot and took control of the situation and arrested all seven including Toran Chakradhari, Abhishek Patel, Hinesh Yadav, Tamraj Cover, Gulab Diwan. Two minors were sent to juvenile court.
SP Shailendra Pandey said that a case has been registered against everyone under BNS sections and they have been sent to jail. This incident emphasizes the need to handle minor disputes on happy occasions like marriage. A wave of mourning has spread in the village.
