Bangladesh announces resumption of tourist visa services for Indians from Monday
Bangladesh on Sunday announced that it will resume tourist visa services for Indian nationals from its diplomatic missions in India from Monday. A Bangladesh Foreign Ministry official said that earlier Bangladesh had suspended tourist visa services from its diplomatic missions in India due to security reasons, but the situation has improved after the Bangladesh elections and now this service is being fully resumed from Monday.
“Other visa services from Bangladesh diplomatic missions located in various cities of India such as Guwahati, Agartala, Mumbai and Kolkata, including the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi, were continuing, but tourist visa services were generally stopped, though visas were issued in emergency cases. Now we are going to resume it completely from Monday,” the MEA official said.
The official also said that the Bangladesh government had directed its missions in India to suspend tourist visas between January 15 and February 15, especially during the Bangladesh elections. However, visas were issued in emergency cases. Apart from Bangladesh, visa services for Bhutan and Nepal were also completely suspended due to security reasons. Now after reviewing the situation, all types of visas, including tourist visas, will resume completely from Monday.
Visa services for Bangladesh nationals from India are still suspended, especially tourist visas, although services continue in some categories.
Relations between Bangladesh and India had been strained in the past few months, especially during the interim government led by Professor Mohammad Yunus. But after the elections held on February 12, when Prime Minister Tariq Rahman’s government took power, there have been signs of improvement in relations between the two countries. After the election, the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet was attended by a high-level delegation from India, including Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
