Talks between Iran and the US: tensions and prospects
Talks will be held in Geneva on Thursday
The next round of talks between the US and Iran will be held in Geneva on Thursday. These talks are taking place when tensions between the two countries have increased and the previous round of talks ended without any result. Iran has recently given its consent for talks. Earlier, on February 18, there was a discussion on the nuclear program between the two countries, but that too remained inconclusive.
Oman’s Foreign Minister gave information
Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi confirmed the talks on Sunday. He said that these talks indicate progress in a positive direction. Iran’s chief diplomat Abbas Araghchi also expressed hope that a meeting with US Representative Steve Witkoff on Thursday could increase the chances of a diplomatic solution.
Controversy over uranium enrichment
The US views Iran’s uranium enrichment as potential development of nuclear weapons, although Iran consistently denies this. Iran is demanding the right to pursue its peaceful nuclear program and has rejected the US demand for zero enrichment, which has also been a contentious issue in previous talks.
Trump warned of strict action
Meanwhile, America has increased the deployment of its troops in Iran. President Donald Trump has indicated several times that he is considering limited military action. According to reports, Trump is being briefed about various options against Iran. America and its European allies have expressed concern about Iran’s nuclear intentions.
Khamenei and his son are in danger
Trump has also been presented with options like the targeted assassination of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son Mojtaba Khamenei. However, the President has not yet taken any decision regarding the attack on Iran. Reports say Trump advisers have discussed several scenarios, including targeting Khamenei and his son.
