Under the proposed new system, toll tax can be paid at toll plazas only through FASTag and UPI from April 1. This rule will also be applicable on major national highways of Chhattisgarh.
The direct impact of this change will be seen on major routes like Raipur-Bilaspur, Raipur-Rajnandgaon, Raipur-Mahasamund, Korba and Ambikapur. Digital payment will be made mandatory at the toll plazas operating on these routes, due to which cash transactions will be completely eliminated. Its objective is to make the toll collection process more transparent, faster and systematic.
In fact, cash payment at toll plazas often leads to long queues, causing loss of time to drivers and disrupting traffic (FASTag Rule India). With the implementation of digital payment system, the movement of vehicles will speed up and congestion at toll plazas is expected to reduce.
