BAFTA Awards 2026: Alia Bhatt blends Hindi speech with Old Hollywood tribute | WATCH

Alia Bhatt BAFTA Awards 2026: The 2026 BAFTA Awards turned into a proud global moment for India as Alia Bhatt made a dazzling debut at London’s Royal Festival Hall. From a show-stopping silver gown to delivering part of her speech in Hindi, the actor owned the red carpet and the stage with effortless charm.

Held by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the ceremony celebrated the best films released in British cinemas in 2025. While Hollywood names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet drew attention, it was Alia who quietly stole the spotlight for Indian audiences worldwide.

Fresh off a long-haul flight from Mumbai, Alia stepped onto the red carpet in a custom Gucci silver gown. The backless, floor-length number shimmered under camera flashes. She paired it with an ivory faux fur stole, clearly nodding to Old Hollywood glamour. The look paid tribute to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic silver gown moment.

“Because I’m a presenter I wanted to bring the glam, but also keep it really elegant, nothing overwhelming. It sits really lightly on the body,” she told British Vogue. However, the inspiration wasn’t purely Western. Alia credited legendary Indian star Rekha as her beauty muse. She also mentioned Brigitte Bardot for hair inspiration and Monica Bellucci for her overall vibe.

On stage, Alia created a memorable moment by beginning her presentation in Hindi. “Namaskar, the next award is for a film which is not in English.” She paused before adding playfully, “Don’t reach for the subtitles just yet,” explaining she was introducing the Best Film Not in the English Language category.

Calling the category “really very special,” she spoke about cinema’s universal language. “Emotion is what really connects people to a film. You don’t necessarily have to understand the words being said,” she noted, underlining storytelling’s global appeal.

Beyond her official duties, Alia also had a fangirl moment. She expressed admiration for 16-year-old British actor Owen Cooper, praising his performance in Adolescence. “He’s so special. He’s someone I would just walk up to and say I’m really looking forward to all the work that you’ll do,” she shared.
