BJP MLA arrested taking bribe of Rs 5 lakh in Karnataka
Bureau Prayagraj- Lokayukta Police in Karnataka has caught BJP MLA Dr Chandru Lamani red handed while taking bribe in a major anti-corruption operation. He and his two associates have been arrested. The case pertains to an irrigation project in Gadag district. It is alleged that the MLA had asked for bribe from the contractor in the name of getting the work approved.
Now politics has become heated on this issue. Congress says that BJP people blame others, but their own MLAs are being caught in corruption. BJP has hit back and alleged that the Congress government is being accused of corruption and hence, action is being taken against the BJP to save itself.
However, BJP MLA from Shirahatti assembly constituency Dr. Chandru Lamani is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 11 lakh from a contractor. This bribe was demanded to approve and carry forward the works of the Minor Irrigation Department. The work included building retaining walls on both sides of the road.
Class-1 contractor Vijay of Chinchli village of Poojaar Gadag district had complained to the Lokayukta police. Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta laid a trap. On Saturday, Lamani and his two assistants Manjunath Valmiki and Gurunayak alias Guru Lamani were caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh at his Balaji hospital in Lakshmeshwar town.
After finding the bribe amount during the trap, Lokayukta officials immediately took action and took all three into custody. It is reported that an associate tried to throw a packet of Rs 1 lakh in a nearby private school in an attempt to destroy the evidence, but he was also caught. Lokayukta has registered a case under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Investigation is ongoing.
