Why is Abhishek Sharma failing in T20 World Cup? Sunil Gavaskar gave a special reason
Delhi: Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has given the reason for Abhishek Sharma’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup match against South Africa. After getting out for a duck thrice in the group stage, against the Proteas, Abhishek could score only 15 runs in 12 balls and was dismissed by Marco Jansen. Before the World Cup, Abhishek was considered to be India’s biggest weapon, but in this big tournament he has proved to be the worst.
South African team had made a special plan to deal with Abhishek
According to former legend Gavaskar, South Africa had made a brilliant plan to dismiss Abhishek, in which Rabada targeted his pads and did not give him a chance to open his hands. He further said that Abhishek is not in his old form in the tournament and the pressure is getting overwhelming on him.
Gavaskar said after the match on Star Sports,
‘Abhishek does not seem to be in rhythm at all. In the nets you know that even if you get out on the first ball, you will get to play the next ball, but in a match the story is completely different. That pressure can almost freeze you, restricting the movement of your hands when playing big shots. Abhishek got a little trapped there and South Africa bowled very cleverly. He knows that Abhishek likes to create room and play in the offside, so look at Rabada, he continuously targeted his pads even after hitting a six.
Gavaskar lashed out at Indian batsmen
Gavaskar looked very angry with the way the Indian batsmen threw away their wickets by playing bad shots against South Africa. He admitted that the wicket was not easy to bat on, but the Indian players needed to learn from the innings of Miller and Brewis.
He said,
‘The batsmen chose very bad shots. Look at Miller and Brewis, on a pitch where the ball was not coming easily to the bat, they adapted themselves to the conditions and scored a good score. On the other hand, the Indian batsmen completely failed to do so.
