BAFTA 2026 honors Dharmendra in emotional in Memoriam segment
The 79th edition of the British Academy Film Awards( BAFTA) paid tribute to late veteran actor Dharmendra during its In Memoriam segment on Sunday, February 23, 2026.
The Indian cinema icon, who passed away in November last year, was remembered alongside international film legends in a moving homage to his legacy.
The ceremony took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Singer Jessie Ware performed an emotional rendition of Barbra Streisand’s The Way We Were, accompanying a video package highlighting figures from the film world who died over the past year.
The segment also highlighted other notable figures, including Diane Keaton, Terence Stamp, Catherine O’Hara, Rob Reiner, Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall, Tom Stoppard, Brigitte Bardot, Lalo Schifrin, Michael Madsen, and Val Kilmer.Indian actor Dharmendra was featured prominently in the tribute.
Fans in India shared their reactions online. One fan wrote, “Good to see BAFTA remembering Dharmendra ji,” while another posted, “The BAFTA Awards featured Dharmendra in their In Memoriam section.” A social media user added, “The #BAFTA In Memoriam #Dharmendra was very touching.”

Dharmendra passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at his residence in Mumbai. Popular as the He-Man of Bollywood, Dharmendra’s career, spanning six decades in the film industry, reflects a remarkable cinematic legacy.
He is survived by his wife, Hema Malini, and six children, actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, and Ahana Deol, along with Ajeeta and Vijeta.
