Ashwin questioned Akshar Patel on not getting a place in the team, said- “I had a partnership with Virat”

Indian team’s experienced spinner Ravindra Jadeja has raised questions over Axar Patel not getting a place in the team. He said that Axar Patel had played a match-winning partnership with Virat Kohli in the final of the T20 World Cup last year and had made important contributions to the team at that time. Ashwin also said that if India had wickets and some consistency after 10 overs, the team could have easily achieved the target.

India selected Washington Sundar and kept Axar Patel on the bench in the Super 8 match against South Africa, while Axar Patel is also the Indian vice-captain. South Africa broke India’s 12-match unbeaten streak and defeated them by 76 runs, which was the biggest defeat for India in the World Cup.

Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Aash Ki Baat’, “In the last T20 World Cup, Akshar had partnered with Virat. If India had wickets and the situation was a bit stable after 10 overs, then India could have easily achieved this target.”

India’s defeat has made their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals difficult. Now India will have to win the next two matches and focus on the net run rate so that it can make its place in the T20 World Cup.
