Mumbai-Pune Expressway Toll Refund: There is good news for those stuck in the massive traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on February 3. Toll tax will be refunded to 1.2 lakh commuters who were stuck in a 32-hour traffic jam after a gas tanker overturned near Khopoli on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This was announced by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) officials. The total repayment amount will be around 5.16 crores.

This will include tolls for both the Expressway and the Pune-Bengaluru highway. Traffic came to a complete standstill after a gas tanker overturned on the expressway. Thousands of passengers were stuck in traffic for hours. During this period the toll collection was directed to stop, but the toll was still being collected. MSRDC has sought details from IRB Infrastructure. Passengers were stuck in traffic jam for an hour.

An MSRDC official said that we have the information of passengers who were charged toll even after the toll suspension order was issued after the gas tanker accident. This amount will be refunded to the passenger’s FASTag account in the coming weeks. Also, following the accident and resulting traffic jam, MSRDC has sought detailed data of FASTag reduction from its concessionaire, IRB Infrastructure, after suspension of toll collection so that all affected passengers can be properly reimbursed.

MSRDC clearly asked the IRB whether toll was being collected even after being informed about suspension of toll collection. He said he believed the FASTags were being cut until the toll plaza barriers were opened. After that, the passengers who were charged the toll even after the suspension order will now be refunded.

Due to the accident, people faced great hardship as they were stuck in traffic jam for more than a day without basic amenities. Especially the elderly, women and children faced great difficulties. Many had to cancel their plans. As soon as the news came out that the toll collection was going on at Khalapur Plaza, the anger of the people increased. Tolls are refunded in case of hour-long traffic jams and long delays.

If the wrong amount is deducted due to a fault with the FASTag scanner, you will get your refund. If a small vehicle, such as a car, is mistaken for a larger vehicle, the toll is then refunded. If the toll is collected without going through the toll plaza, the full amount is refunded. If the toll is collected twice at the same toll plaza at the same time, the toll is refunded later.
