Gavaskar believes that India should learn from South Africa’s innings, leave their ego and adapt to the conditions, and not enter the field with overconfidence and throw their bat at everything. Gavaskar said on JioStar, “Looking at the way Brewis and Miller built their partnership, it seemed that this was the approach that the Indian batsmen needed… The Indian batsmen did not do that. They came into the field with overconfidence, threw their bat at everything and lost wickets. South Africa clearly beat India and it was a good win for them.”

Let us tell you that after losing early wickets, Miller and Brewis made a match-winning partnership of 97 runs and took the Proteas to 187/7. After this, India batted poorly, lost wickets repeatedly and were out for 111 runs in 18.5 overs. The former Indian captain said, “India did not learn anything from South Africa’s innings. They kept swinging their bat on every ball in the hope of a boundary. T20 cricket is not played like that.”

He further added, “You have to learn from the opposition. If they have scored well on such a difficult pitch, you have to drop your ego, observe and adjust.” Let us tell you that after the defeat against South Africa, India will have to win its next two matches at any cost to remain in the race for the semi-finals. After the defeat in the first match of Super-8, the team’s NRR has reached -3.800. That means they will need a big win to improve it. India has to play its next match against Zimbabwe on 26 February.
