Indian government’s advisory amid threat of American attack on Tehran – ‘Indian citizens should leave Iran immediately’
New Delhi23 February. The Government of India has issued an advisory to its citizens living in Iran amid the threat of a US attack on Iran and advised them to leave Iran immediately using available means of transport including commercial flights.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an advisory on Monday for its citizens living in Iran, saying that Indian citizens (students, pilgrims, businessmen and tourists) present in Iran are advised to leave Iran using other available means including commercial flights.
The Embassy has reiterated its January 14 advisory, in which all Indian citizens and people of Indian origin were asked to exercise caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in touch with the Embassy and closely monitor local media for updates.
The advisory reads, ‘In accordance with the advisory issued by the Government of India on January 5, 2026, and in view of the changing situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, businessmen and tourists) are advised to leave Iran through available modes of transport, including commercial flights.’
It further said, ‘In the advisory dated January 14, 2026, it is reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs should exercise caution, avoid protest or demonstration sites, remain in touch with the Indian Embassy in Iran and keep an eye on local media for any developments.’
“All Indian nationals in Iran are requested to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passport and ID, handy with them,” the advisory issued through a post on the Embassy’s They are requested to contact the Indian Embassy for any help in this regard.

Indian nationals resident in Iran who have not yet enrolled with the Embassy are advised to register using the online form available on its website. If there is a disruption in internet service in Iran, family members living in India have been asked to complete the registration process on their behalf.
The Embassy has requested all Indian nationals in Iran who have not registered with the Indian Security Office at the Embassy to register (at the link). The Embassy said that if an Indian national is unable to register due to disruption of internet service in Iran, his/her family members in India can also register.
