Karan Adani talks on governance, growth and defense at AIMA Platinum Jubilee
New Delhi21 February 2026: Due to its rapid expansion, Adani Group is further strengthening its focus on national infrastructure, defense related ecosystem and internal governance. Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ, said this on Saturday. At an event organized on the occasion of platinum jubilee of All India Management Association (AIMA), Karan Adani explained in detail about the condition and direction of the group.
Karan Adani, son of Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, said the group’s investments rest on three main pillars – energy, logistics and core materials essential for India’s growth. In the energy sector, new digital assets such as city gas distribution, transmission networks and data centers will remain a long-term priority for the Group.
- self-reliance strategic need
Talking about the defense sector, he said that self-reliance is a major strategic need of India. He said steps like the recent partnership with Brazilian company Embraer are steps towards strengthening maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. Its objective is to connect domestic manufacturing with the global supply chain.
- Also talked about the challenges of the organization
Talking about the challenges related to the organization, he admitted that due to rapid expansion, many layers of management were created, due to which there is delay in taking decisions. Now the priority is to bring back speed and scalability by simplifying the structure. He said that the group is working towards reducing the average age of its employees, which is currently 38 years, so that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be adopted faster.
He also drew attention to the investment plan of $ 100 billion (about Rs 9 lakh crore) announced this week regarding AI. Under which AI and digital infrastructure based on renewable energy will be created by 2035. He said that the share of women employees in the group has increased from 2 percent to 15 percent. About 80 percent of the group’s leaders have been drawn from within the group and people in businesses like ports, airports, cement and mining are being given opportunities to work in other sectors.
- Right narrative is important in global market
On questions related to governance, regulatory scrutiny and media coverage, Karan Adani said that in any difficult period, strong operational capabilities and clear communication are the biggest strengths. He said the group’s strong strength was its consistent income from its infrastructure business, although earlier there was an over-dependence on some locations. Now work is going on to strengthen the institutional structure and add new partners.
He said, “We have to explain our point and our context to the world in a better way“ He agreed that creating the right narrative in the global market has now become very important. Talking about sustainability, he rejected the idea that environmental measures are against profit. He said that this year diesel trucks in port operations are being replaced with green fuel alternatives.
- F1 showed interest in starting
Karan Adani also expressed interest in restarting Formula-1 (F1) racing in India. Responding to a question on the assets belonging to the Jaiprakash Group, which also include the Buddha International Circuit in Greater Noida, he said that if F1 returns, its aim will be to set a global level benchmark.
Recalling the early days of his career, he said that he worked at the ground level at Mundra Port without any special facilities. He said that that experience influenced his thinking and way of working more than his studies. His conversation took place with Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman of Hero Enterprise and former President of AIMA.
