Shimron Hetmyer Fastest Fifty : Shimron Hetmyer has been in tremendous form for West Indies against Zimbabwe in the ongoing Super 8s match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. In this match being held at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the 29-year-old left-handed batsman from Guyana scored a half-century in just 19 balls for the Men in Maroon. He completed 50 runs by hitting Sikandar Raza for a six on the fifth ball of the eighth over of the West Indies innings.

Hetmyer’s 19-ball fifty in Mumbai helped him break his own record for the fastest half-century in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match for the Men in Maroon.

In West Indies’ first Group C match of the T20 World Cup 2026, Hetmyer scored a half-century in 22 balls against Scotland in Kolkata on 7 February. Hetmyer’s six on the fifth ball of the 8th over was his fifth maximum in the current match. Apart from hitting five maximums, Hetmyer also hit four fours.

He added 37 runs in 19 balls for the second wicket with Shai Hope (14 runs in 12 balls), and at the end of 14 overs, he added 115 runs in 49 balls for the third wicket with Rovman Powell (49 runs in 28 balls).

Yuvraj Singh holds the record for fastest half-century

The record of scoring the fastest half-century in a T20 World Cup match is in the name of India’s Yuvraj Singh. In the 2007 T20 World Cup match played between India and England in Durban on 19 September, Yuvraj had completed 50 runs in just 12 balls.

In the list of batsmen who have scored the fastest 50 runs in the T20 World Cup, after Yuvraj comes Netherlands’ batsman Stefan Myburgh and Australia’s Marcus Stoinis. Both Stephen Myburgh and Stoinis scored half centuries in just 17 balls.
