Final voter list released after SIR in Tamil Nadu, 74 lakh names removed

According to Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, the final voter list has been released in the state after the completion of the SIR process. More than 74 lakh names have been removed in this. This information has come at a time when assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu soon, and the Election Commission may announce the election dates in March.

Tamilnadu SIR: Total number of voters

Before the start of the SIR process (27 October 2025), the number of voters in Tamil Nadu was 6.41 crore. Now (23 February 2026) according to the final voter list it has reduced to 5.67 crores. In such a situation, about 74 lakh names have been removed. Voters who have objections to this final list can contact the authorities to add or remove names. The Election Commission will also share the final voter list with political parties.

Tamilnadu SIR: According to a release by the Chief Electoral Officer, the breakdown of voters in Tamil Nadu is as follows: Male voters: 2.7 crore, Female voters: 2.8 crore, Third gender voters: 7,617, with the highest number of voters in Shojchinganallur assembly constituency in Chengalpattu district, with a total of 5.36 lakh voters.
