What is the whole matter?
Actually, in January 2026, an FIR was registered against Ranveer Singh at High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru. The actor was accused of insulting Hindu religious sentiments. Besides, he has insulted the Chavundhi Daiva tradition of Karnataka. This case was registered under sections 196, 299 and 302 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). This complaint was lodged by 46 year old lawyer Prashant Methal of Bengaluru. According to the FIR, this alleged incident took place during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa on 28 November 2025. The complainant also claimed that Ranveer Singh had made objectionable remarks and also performed a stage act. According to him, the actor had mocked the sacred elements of the Daiva tradition and tried to degrade them.
allegations leveled against the actor
In the FIR, Methal said that he found a video of the performance while scrolling through Instagram at the Karnataka State Billiards Association in Bengaluru on December 2, 2025. That video was shared from an account named Brief Chaat. Methal alleged that Ranveer Singh tried to copy expressions related to Panjurli and Guliga Daiva, which was quite vulgar and insulting. He further claimed that the actor had called the sacred Chavundi deity a female ghost.
After retirement, Arijit sang the song again, it was Aamir Khan’s request; Is the singer preparing to return to Bollywood again?
The complaint further states that Chavundi Daiva is worshiped as a protector deity in the coastal villages of Karnataka. Which is a symbol of a divine woman. Devotees have great faith in him. To call a deity a ghost is to create serious misunderstandings. By doing this, Ranveer has hurt religious sentiments and caused mental problems to those who follow the divine tradition. It was further alleged in the FIR that this act was done deliberately and with malicious intent. This case was first sent to the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Bengaluru. The hearing of this case was to be held on 8 April.
