Kolkata: A terror module planning a major terrorist attack in the country has been busted. The Special Cell of Delhi Police has reached Kolkata and arrested two suspects. A total of 8 people have been confirmed arrested in this case so far. Investigative agencies are thoroughly investigating possible connections with Bangladesh and Pakistan based terrorist organizations.
Malda and Bangladesh connection
The arrested accused have been identified as Umar Farooq, resident of Malda, and Robil Ul Islam, resident of Bangladesh. Initial investigation has revealed that both the suspects were in contact with a person based in Bangladesh, Shabbir Ahmed Lone. According to sources, Shabbir Ahmed Lone is said to be related to Pakistan based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. It is said that he is originally from Kashmir. According to police records, he was arrested in 2007 with an AK-47 and a hand grenade. After his release from jail in 2018, he allegedly fled to Bangladesh, from where he was operating the module.
Secret revealed due to anti national poster in Delhi
The matter came to light when anti-national posters were put up on the pillars of the metro near Delhi’s Kashmere Gate metro station on February 7. After this incident, Delhi Police Metro Unit and Special Cell started investigation. Those who put up the posters were identified on the basis of CCTV footage and technical surveillance. During investigation, his connection reached West Bengal. After this the Special Cell team reached Kolkata and with the help of the local police arrested both the suspects.
Raids in Tamil Nadu also
Based on the information received from the suspects during interrogation, the investigating agencies also conducted raids in Tamil Nadu, from where other suspects were detained. It is said that many suspicious videos and digital evidence related to terrorist module have been found from the mobile phones of the accused.
