Dhoni will play in IPL 2026, is this news good or bad for CSK fans?

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be seen playing in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). IPL 2026 is going to start from next month. Dhoni was retained by CSK for Rs 4 crore for this season. When 44-year-old Dhoni was retained by CSK, there was talk that maybe he would stay in the squad and guide the other players, but the CEO of the franchise has made it clear that he will also come on the field in the role of a mentor.

Will CSK fans be happy with Dhoni’s play?

Dhoni has been associated with CSK since IPL 2008. He has won 5 IPL trophies for this franchise. Under the captaincy of Dhoni, CSK became the most successful team of this league. But his playing for CSK at his increasing age is causing harm to the team. In the last IPL season, he was sent to bat at number 9. He and the team management were criticized a lot for Ashwin’s decline.

Dhoni’s presence is important in CSK. His staying connected with the team will be useful in making strategies but using him only for wicket-keeping and helping captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on the field is proving to be a double-edged sword for CSK. As a batsman, Dhoni is not able to help the team, due to which his fans also do not want to see him playing in IPL.

During the last IPL season, many videos of Dhoni and CSK fans had surfaced, in which they were seen saying that Dhoni should not play anymore, because due to his playing, the team is fielding with one less batsman. It will be important to see whether he plays in some matches of the upcoming season or will take the field for the entire season. Let us tell you that now CSK has an experienced wicketkeeper batsman in the form of Sanju Samson, who will not let Dhoni’s absence be felt as much on the field.

Scored 196 runs in IPL 2025

Dhoni took charge of CSK last season when Ruturaj was injured. He had scored 196 runs in 13 innings. During this period his strike rate was 135.17. A lot of questions were raised on his strike rate, because at the position he was coming in, it is common to have a strike rate around 200. He is no longer able to run fast between the wickets, which has earned him criticism when it comes to finishing.
