T20 World Cup 2026: West Indies defeated Zimbabwe by 107 runs with Hetmyer’s 85 and Moti’s 4 wickets.

Mumbai Thanks to Shimron Hetmyer’s stormy inning of 85 runs in 34 balls and Gudakesh Moti’s four wickets, West Indies defeated Zimbabwe by 107 runs. This match was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Hetmyer’s record breaking innings
Hetmyer scored 85 runs in 34 balls, hitting seven fours and seven sixes, on a pitch that was conducive to spin. On the basis of his explosive batting, West Indies scored a huge score of 254/6 in 20 overs, which is the highest score of this tournament and the second highest score in T20 World Cup history.

Batting at number-2, Hetmyer scored the fastest fifty of the T20 World Cup for West Indies by completing his half-century in just 19 balls. Earlier this record was in the name of Chris Gayle (23 balls, 2009).

Hetmyer made a partnership of 122 runs for the third wicket with captain Rovman Powell (59 runs in 35 balls). Both of them made the match completely one-sided by adding 100 runs in just 45 balls.

Zimbabwe disintegrates under pressure of goal
Chasing the mammoth target of 255, Zimbabwe got off to a poor start and were reduced to 20/3 in the third over. Captain Sikandar Raza struggled, scoring 27 runs in 20 balls, while Brad Evans played an aggressive inning of 43 runs in 21 balls.

Despite this, the pressure of run rate was very high and the entire team collapsed for 147 runs in 17.4 overs. This was a huge blow for Zimbabwe, which had defeated Australia and Sri Lanka in the league stage.

Fatal bowling of Moti and Hossein
In bowling, Gudakesh Moti recorded excellent figures of 4/28. Akeal Hossain (3/28) and Matthew Ford (2/27) provided excellent support.

With this big win, West Indies’ net run rate has reached above +5, making the race for the semi-finals even more exciting. However, this match was entirely in the name of Hetmyer, whose explosive innings has made West Indies among the strong contenders for the title.
