Americans are unhappy with Trump’s policies and the way he’s run the country… 60% are upset with the tariff decisions.

Washington: American President Donald Trump remains in the news more for his statements than for his actions. Perhaps Trump himself does not know what he will say next. This is why he often remains in the news. Meanwhile, a survey report has come out. According to this survey, most Americans are not happy with the policies of American President Donald Trump and the way he runs the country. In the February 2026 survey, Trump’s overall disapproval rating has reached almost 60%, which is one of the highest rates so far in his second term and is similar to the situation when he left office in 2021. According to the survey, most people disagree with Trump’s approach on important everyday issues like inflation, tariffs, foreign relations, immigration and the overall economy.

The survey was conducted by ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos through Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel, and was conducted just before the Supreme Court struck down Trump’s earlier global tariffs. According to the survey, nearly two-thirds of Americans (about 65%) disapprove of Trump’s handling of inflation. 64% disapprove of his approach to imposing tariffs on imported goods, while 62% disapprove of his handling of foreign relations. 58% of respondents disapprove of his handling of immigration, and 57% said the overall economy could be handled better. Trump is not receiving clear public support on any of these issues.

Dissatisfied with Trump but not trusting the Democrats
According to the survey, most people are unhappy with Trump, but they also lack complete trust in the Democrats in the US Congress. In fact, when people were asked who they trust most to solve the country’s biggest problems, opinions were almost evenly divided: Trump (33%), Democrats (31%), or ‘neither’ (31%). The survey report clearly shows that many Americans are unhappy with both parties.

According to the survey, Trump received the lowest support from Democrats and independent voters, who disagreed with him on almost every issue. Furthermore, there are divisions within the Republican Party as well. According to the report, strong supporters of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement mostly agreed with Trump’s decisions, but Republicans who considered themselves different from MAGA were more critical, especially on issues like inflation and foreign policy. Overall, Trump’s disapproval rate is nearly 60%, one of the highest rates so far in his second term and equal to the rate when he left office in 2021.

Meanwhile, public opinion on the economy is also gloomy. Nearly half of Americans say conditions have worsened
since Trump took office. Only about 3% said the economy has improved. Only 22% of those surveyed felt better financially, while most said their situation remained the same or had worsened.

The survey also raised questions about Trump’s fitness to be president. According to the survey report, more than half of Americans said he lacked the mental capacity to be president, and nearly half said he was not physically fit. Republicans largely disagreed, but Democrats and independent voters strongly shared these concerns.

Trust is also a major issue. Nearly 70% of Americans (seven out of ten) said Trump is not honest or trustworthy. Many believe he is abusing the presidency for personal gain, and most believe he has exceeded his legal powers. Regarding specific actions, most Americans oppose cutting recommended vaccines for children and do not support the use of the US military to influence other countries. Many also believe the administration has not been transparent about sensitive matters, such as the Jeffrey Epstein files. The survey was conducted among more than 2,500 adults across the US.
