Alert for Indians: Advice issued to leave Iran immediately

New Delhi. The Indian government has advised its citizens living in Iran to leave the country immediately due to security reasons. The warning comes as the recent protests in Iran and potential international tensions escalate.

The Indian Embassy said that all citizens, students, pilgrims, businessmen and tourists present in Iran should leave the country safely using all available means of transport. These include commercial flights and other travel options. The embassy also clarified that for security reasons it is extremely important to stay away from areas where public protests and rallies take place.

Students recently protested in several universities of Iran, which is considered to be the first major movement after the strict action taken against the protesters last month. According to official data of January, about ten thousand Indian citizens live in Iran.

The Embassy has appealed to all citizens to always keep all travel documents including their passports and identity cards with them and to contact the Embassy immediately in case of any emergency. The purpose of this warning is to ensure the safety of Indians living in Iran and protect them from any unexpected danger.

The Government of India also reiterated that citizens should remain vigilant about their security and use only official commercial means. This step has been taken in view of the deteriorating situation in Iran and possible military tension.
