Next-Generation Toyota Fortuner: New Spy Shot Show Camouflaged Front

Toyota is known to be working on a generational update to the Fortuner SUV. A camouflaged test mule was recently spied in Thailand for the first time. It, however, showed the rear end of the vehicle. Now, a new set of spy pictures have surfaced, showing the front design. There is heavy camouflage on the vehicle this time as well.

What Does The New Spy Picture Show?

This image shows the front end of the upcoming Fortuner. The mule is being driven in a convoy- followed by a Legender and with a Hilux in front. According to previous predictions, the front fascia of the upcoming Fortuner would have a heavy influence of the 9th generation Hilux’s ‘Cyber Sumo’ face. Even though there is heavy camouflage on the vehicle, we can deduce some of its details.

The headlamps seem to resemble those of the new Hilux with their shape. The DRLs, however, seem to be slimmer. A fibre applique runs between the headlamp units. On the production model. It will have ‘Toyota’ spelled out. Below it is a large rectangular grille. The finer design details of this upright, mesh-patterned grille remains unclear, but it will surely have a strong resemblance to the new Hilux’s grille.

The triangular section below the headlamps and a few other cues found on the Hilux go missing on the Fortuner. However, we can’t be sure here, as the camo could be cleverly hiding these in the image. Below the grille is a wide air dam. The front bumper seems to stand visually distinct from that of the truck.

Something that looks like a radar can also be seen on the mule, and a camera unit toward the upper end of the windscreen- both indicating the presence of ADAS features.

Despite the sharper styling, the Fortuner retains its squared-off bonnet and upright stance. The proportions remain muscular and rugged, ensuring it does not lose the road presence that played a key role in making it popular in India.

Now comes the shocking part: the side profile. From what we see here, the design of the side profile remains almost untouched ! The window line and roof line remain the same. Considering this is a full generational update, at least some of us may be disappointed with the ‘familiar side view’. The vehicle will also have functional roof rails and side steps.

As suggested by the previous spy picture, the rear end will have a wider stance. It will look more upright and squared-off. The tail lamp cluster will be sleek and likely connected by an illuminated bar. The vehicle will also feature a new rear bumper.

More About The Upcoming Fortuner

In dimensions, the new Fortuner will stay close to the outgoing model, since the platform remains unchanged. The new-generation SUV will be underpinned by a heavily upgraded version of the current model’s IMV architecture- the same that is found on the latest Hilux.

Globally, Toyota will take a multi-powertrain approach with the new Fortuner. In India, however, it will continue with the current model’s engines and transmissions- the 2.7L naturally aspirated petrol and 2.8L turbocharged diesel. Both manual and automatic transmissions are likely to be offered. The 48V mild-hybrid diesel is likely to be introduced later.

The cabin experience is expected to see major improvements in the new SUV. It will likely see the addition of features like a 12.3-inch fully digital driver display, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, ADAS, support for over-the-air (OTA) software updates and more. The overall fit and finish inside, are also expected to improve.

Expected Launch Timelines

The next-generation Fortuner is expected to make its global debut in mid- 2026 and will be introduced in India shortly after. Given Fortuner’s dominance in India’s full-size SUV segment, the new generation is easily one of the most anticipated launches on the horizon.
