Ukrainian President Zelensky appeals to Donald Trump that America should be with him
Kiev. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on Monday appealed to US President Donald Trump that America should be with him. Zelensky said at the Presidential Palace in Kiev, a day before the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, that he expected Trump to announce Ukraine’s support in the fight against Russia in his State of the Union speech on Tuesday.
“Trump has to stick with Ukraine,” Zelensky said, CNN reported. Ukraine is fighting against Russian President Putin. Putin is a war. America is very powerful. He can really stop Putin. We are tired of fighting. Accepting Putin’s demands is not an option. We can’t give Putin everything he wants.
As the war enters its fifth year, three-way peace talks between Ukraine, Russia and the US have so far failed to make any breakthroughs. Zelensky said it was still unclear how Ukraine’s allies would react if Russia attacked Ukraine again in the future.
“I want clear answers,” he said. Ukraine is ready to stop fighting on the current front. But the Ukrainian army will not retreat from the areas of eastern Donetsk region under its control. Russia demands that Ukraine give up about 20 percent of that area. Russia wants us to withdraw our forces. We are not children. We have gone through this war for so many years. We cannot serve them to the country on a plate.
