Demonstration of United Kisan Morcha in Malot, siege of cabinet minister’s office in protest against privatization policies

On the call of United Kisan Morcha Bharat and various public organizations, a protest was held outside the office of Aam Aadmi Party cabinet minister Bibi Baljit Kaur in Malout city. The protesters demanded withdrawal of privatization policies and repeal of alleged black laws.
During the demonstration, leaders of various farmers and labor organizations raised slogans against the Punjab and Central governments. Speakers alleged that the public sector institutions established after independence—such as power, education, road transport, health, railways, defense and aviation—have been important in the country’s progress and employment generation, but under current policies these are gradually being handed over to private hands.
District Executive President of Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union Gurjant Singh Sauke, State leader of Technical Service Union Bhupinder Singh Bittu, Gurdeep Khudian of Bhakti Ekta Dakaunda, District General Secretary of Bhakti Ekta Ugrahan Gurbhagat Singh Bhalaiyana, Press Secretary of Kirti Kisan Union Gurcharan Singh Buttar, State Vice President of Kul Hind Kisan Sabha Gurpreet Singh Nadda and representatives of many organizations addressed.
Speakers said that privatization will reduce employment opportunities and increase the economic burden on the general public. Samyukt Kisan Morcha Bharat warned that the shortcomings of public sector institutions should be removed and they should be strengthened, and not handed over to private hands.
The demonstration concluded peacefully. Police force remained deployed in view of the security arrangements from the administration.
