‘Compromising with the interests of farmers’: Rahul Gandhi’s sharp attack on the central government in Bhopal’s Kisan Mahachoupal.

Bhopal. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi strongly targeted the Central Government in the ‘Kisan Mahachoupal’ organized by Congress at Jawahar Chowk in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal in protest against the India-US trade deal. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has compromised the interests of the country’s farmers through international agreements.

Rahul Gandhi claimed that this trade deal was stalled for four months and talks on agriculture related issues were stalled. According to him, the Prime Minister took the decision suddenly without discussing it with the concerned ministers.

Allegation of ‘selling the farmers’
Rahul Gandhi said that the government did not want big American companies to sell products like soya, cotton and maize in India, because it would cause loss to Indian farmers. He alleged that after one of his speeches, the Prime Minister agreed to the agreement after talking to the then US President Donald Trump without cabinet discussion.

He also said that due to this decision, even the data of farmers has gone out and the textile industry has also been negatively affected.

Political responsibility on decisions like war-
Referring to the memoir book of former Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane, Rahul Gandhi said in the meeting that the decision to go to war is not military but political. He said that the army performs its duty, but the final decision on a serious issue like war is the responsibility of the elected government and political leadership.

Question on America-Bangladesh and textile-
Rahul Gandhi said that the government is talking about helping Bangladesh and zero percent tax in the textile sector. He claims that if India imports cotton from America, then zero tax will be applicable on it too. He raised the question what effect large-scale imports would have on the country’s domestic industry.

‘Decision taken under pressure’-
Rahul Gandhi alleged that this decision was taken under pressure. He said that India gave a lot in the agreement, but it is not clear what the country got in return. According to him, now India may have to pay more taxes than before and there is no concrete guarantee regarding imports.

Mention of Trump Tariff and Supreme Court-
Rahul Gandhi said that the Supreme Court in America had ordered to cancel Trump’s tariff decisions and they had to be withdrawn. He claimed that other countries also changed their decisions, but there was no clear response from India on the issue.

He challenged the Prime Minister and said that if you have courage then show it by canceling the deal with America.

Call to workers-
At the end of the meeting, Rahul Gandhi called upon the Congress workers not to be afraid and to convey their message strongly to the public. He said that Congress created industries in the country, whereas both industries and farmers are being affected by the policies of the present government.
