20% reservation for former firefighters in Delhi Police constable recruitment, amendment in age and physical examination rules approved
Lieutenant Governor V.K. Taking a big decision on Monday, Saxena announced to reserve 20 percent posts of male constable recruitment in Delhi Police for former firefighters. According to the announcement, former firefighters candidates will also get additional facilities in the recruitment process like relaxation in physical efficiency test, relaxation of 3 years in the maximum age limit. This step has been taken with the aim of providing better employment opportunities in the security forces to the firefighters who have completed the service. Agneepath Scheme was launched in the year 2022 with the aim of recruiting Indian youth for short-term service in the armed forces.
Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has taken a big step to include former firefighters in Delhi Police. According to an official statement, he has approved the amendment in Rule 9 of the Delhi Police (Appointment and Recruitment) Rules, 1980. Under this amendment, a provision has now been included to recruit former firefighters to the post of male constable (soldier). This has opened the way for the youth who have completed service under the Agneepath scheme to join the police force.
Former firefighters will get 20% reservation
Important provisions have been made for former firefighters regarding recruitment to constable posts in Delhi Police. According to the official statement, they will be given 20 percent reservation in recruitment. Relaxation in Physical Efficiency Test, relaxation of 3 years in the prescribed upper age limit, additional relaxation of 5 years from the maximum age limit of 25 years to the candidates of the first batch of Agneepath Yojana. According to the officials, after these amendments, a large number of former Agniveer will be eligible for the post of constable and the police force will get trained and disciplined youth.
There are total 42,451 sanctioned posts of Male Constable (Sipahi) in Delhi Police. Appointment to these posts is done through direct recruitment process. The prescribed age limit of the candidates for recruitment is 18 to 25 years. The selection process involves written examination, physical efficiency test and other prescribed stages.
