If you come across any such link of video call or sensational news, then do not click on it even by mistake. According to cyber experts, this is a new way to trap people which is being called ‘Ghost File Scam’. These links are actually part of online fraud, whose purpose may be to steal your personal information or defraud you.
Who was targeted through this scam?
The name of Philippines’ famous influencer Vera Hill (known as ‘ChiChi’) is being dragged into this scam. A lie is being spread on social media that some of his private videos have been leaked, whereas in reality there is no such video on any reliable platform. Experts say that the clips seen on apps like TikTok and Facebook are either fake or someone else’s video is being wrongly spread as theirs.

How does Ghost File Scam work?
- Scammers create such fake blogs and pages on the internet, in which words like ‘ChiChi’ video call are used extensively so that they appear higher in Google search.
- As soon as a user clicks on these links, he is sent to a fake video streaming page.
- As soon as the user clicks, the IP address is recorded.
- The user is shown a fake Facebook ‘Age Verification’ page which is actually a phishing site that steals your login ID and password.
- On the pretext of playing the video, the user is asked to download a ‘plugin’, which is actually a dangerous virus.
- This virus can record every typing of your keyboard, due to which there is a big risk of theft of your bank password and personal information.

What to do to avoid scams?
