On Friday, just hours after the Supreme Court’s decision, Trump signed an executive order, through which he bypassed Congress and paved the way for imposing a 10 percent tariff on imports from around the world. However, this tariff can remain in effect only for 150 days, unless it is extended through legislation.

The Supreme Court, while giving its verdict by a majority of 6-3 on Friday, had said that under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977, the President has not been given the right to impose tariffs.
