The Vision Behind the Move
Deepinder Goyal shared the news on social media, explaining that while civil aviation and defense might seem like two different worlds, they actually share a lot of DNA. Both rely heavily on things like sensors, navigation, autonomous systems, and advanced controls.
By bringing Sharang Shakti under the LAT Aerospace umbrella, the goal is to develop these high-tech capabilities right here in India. This tech won’t just be for the military; it will eventually help create better, smarter civil aviation platforms too.
What Does Sharang Shakti Actually Do?
Founded in 2023, Sharang Shakti is at the cutting edge of airspace surveillance. They specialize in “counter-drone” technology—the stuff that finds and stops unauthorized drones.
vajR: This is their “hard-kill” interceptor. Think of it as a specialized drone that hunts down other drones by crashing into them to destroy the threat.
hantR: This is a more gentle approach. It uses sensors and nets to capture drones without destroying them, making it perfect for sensitive areas.
Market Reaction
While this news sounds exciting for the tech world, the stock market had a bit of a rough day. Shares of Zomato’s parent brand, Eternal, saw a dip of over 5%, dropping below ₹255 on Tuesday. It seems investors are still processing how these new ventures will impact the company’s long-term focus.
The Bigger Picture
LAT Aerospace itself is currently working on hybrid-electric aircraft that can take off and land on short runways. With the addition of Sharang Shakti’s robotics expertise, Goyal is clearly building a powerhouse that could change how we think about the skies over India.
