Shankaracharya released the photo and raised questions on the role of police, IPS Ajaypal Sharma and ‘History Sheeter’ Ashutosh Brahmachari were seen cutting the cake.

Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati of Jyotish Peeth has released a photo on Tuesday, in which Prayagraj’s Additional Police Commissioner IPS Ajay Pal Sharma is seen cutting the cake. Standing with him is Ashutosh Brahmachari (whom Shankaracharya has called a “history-sheeter”). He showed this photo to the media and raised questions on the role of the police. He alleges that this photo proves that a conspiracy is being hatched in the case registered against him under the POCSO Act, as the investigation is under the concerned officer (Ajay Pal Sharma), who is seen to be publicly associated with the accuser Ashutosh Brahmachari. He said that how is an impartial investigation possible in such a situation?

This controversy intensified when an FIR was registered against Shankaracharya and his disciple Mukundananda Brahmachari at Jhunsi police station in Prayagraj on charges of child sexual abuse (POCSO Act). The FIR was filed on the orders of the Special POCSO Court, in which the petition was filed by Ashutosh Brahmachari (disciple of Jagadguru Rambhadracharya). The allegations relate to two minors during the Magh Mela/Maha Kumbh. Shankaracharya has described these allegations as completely baseless and a planned conspiracy. He said that Ashutosh Brahmachari has many criminal cases against him in the past and he is a “history-sheeter”.

He also accused the police of bias that the FIR was registered only after the court order and not before. At the same time, the background of IPS Ajay Pal Sharma (formerly dentist turned IPS) is also being discussed. In some reports, he has been described as an honest officer, but the controversy has increased after this photo. Ashutosh Brahmachari has described the photo as AI generated. Shankaracharya has filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Allahabad High Court, and the police are intensifying the investigation. The matter is sensitive, involving religious, legal and administrative aspects. An independent investigation into the claims of both sides is necessary.
