Indore Municipal Corporation made public the names of 57 big defaulters by playing drums on Rajwada, created pressure for recovery of Rs 2 crore
Indore Municipal Corporation on Tuesday once again adopted a unique method for recovery from big property tax defaulters of the city. The corporation team pasted a poster containing the names of 57 big defaulters while playing drums at Rajwada, the busiest and historical place of the city. This list not only contains the names of the defaulters, but also clearly mentions the amount owed to them, which in total is around Rs 2 crore.
This action became a topic of discussion among the people. The objective of the corporation is to create social pressure on the defaulters to induce them to pay, especially when several notices and warnings have had no effect on them.
Keep an eye on the upcoming Lok Adalat
This entire exercise of the corporation is being done keeping in mind the Lok Adalat to be held on March 14. The corporation wants more and more defaulters to approach Lok Adalat to pay their taxes and avail the exemption in surcharge. Publicly revealing the names will increase the pressure on defaulters to pay.
Zone 3’s ARO Anil Nikam gave information about this action.
“This time too, notices have been issued to those who are big defaulters, to whom we have been advised several times, to deposit the outstanding amount, but they have not deposited the amount, hence the list of their names has been made public and posted at Rajwada and zonal offices.” — Anil Nikam, ARO, Zone 3
He also said that this method has proved successful in the past also.
There was great success in the last Lok Adalat
This is not the first time that the Municipal Corporation has made public the list of defaulters. According to Anil Nikam, even during the last Lok Adalat, the list of big defaulters of wards 56, 57 and 58 was put on Rajwada.
It received a very good response and the corporation received a revenue of more than Rs 100 crore. Encouraged by this success, the corporation has again adopted the same strategy this time. Corporation officials have appealed to the taxpayers to take advantage of the exemption in surcharge by depositing the outstanding amount in the Lok Adalat.
