Big blow to Anil Ambani, now he can declare bank fraud, Bombay High Court withdraws relief

Anil Ambani News: Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani has received a big blow from the Bombay High Court. Banks will now be able to declare Anil Ambani a fraud. Bombay High Court has canceled the order of relief given to Anil Ambani. Earlier, in December 2025, the court had stayed the process of declaring banks as fraud in the bank fraud case of Rs 40 thousand crore.

Chief Justice Shri Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam A. The Division Bench of Ankhad clearly said that the appeals are allowed. There are serious flaws in the challenged order. The court termed the single bench’s decision as ‘wrong and erroneous’.

The lawyers appearing for Ambani sought a four-week stay on the decision, but the bench refused, saying that when the order has been found to be illegal and irregular, staying it would amount to continuation of the wrong.

Actually, Bank of Baroda, Indian Overseas Bank and IDBI Bank had challenged the stay order of the single bench in January 2026. The banks argued that they wanted to take action on the basis of forensic audit. Now banks will be able to take further action as per the law. Anil Ambani, former non-executive director of RCom, had filed separate petitions against three banks demanding a stay on the notice. On December 24, 2025, the bench of Justice Milind Jadhav, while giving interim relief, had said that the forensic audit conducted under the instructions of RBI should meet the standards of statutory audit. Now after this decision of the Division Bench, the way has again been cleared for fraud action by banks.

Ambani said- I will not leave the country without permission

Last week, Anil Ambani had assured the court that he would not leave the country and would not travel abroad without permission. Anil Ambani had also said that he will fully cooperate in the ongoing investigation by ED and CBI against the companies of Reliance Group (ADAG).

Supreme Court had given instructions to form SIT

Earlier this month, Chief Justice Surya Kant’s bench had expressed displeasure over the delay in investigating the case. The Supreme Court had asked the investigating agencies (ED and CBI) why the investigation was taking so much time. Along with this, the court had ordered ED to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) so that the investigation of this alleged scam of Rs 40,000 crore can be expedited.
