IND-W Vs AUS-W: Team India was limited to 214, even the captain and vice-captain’s fifty could not get a big score; Gardner trapped in spin
IND-W vs AUS-W: In the ODI match played in Brisbane, the batting of the Indian Women Cricket Team did not perform as per the expectations and the entire team was all out for 214 runs in 48.3 overs. Despite important half-centuries by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, the Indian innings could not reach a big score. For Australia, Ashley Gardner bowled brilliantly and took three wickets and gave the host team a strong position in the match.
Mandhana and Harmanpreet took over the innings
Batting first after the toss, India had a very poor start. Opener Pratika Rawal returned to the pavilion without opening the account, while Shefali Verma also failed to play a big innings. After the initial setbacks, experienced Smriti Mandhana tried to handle the innings. He played a restrained inning of 58 runs in 68 balls, which included 7 fours.
After Mandhana’s dismissal, captain Harmanpreet Kaur took the responsibility. He scored 53 runs in 84 balls, but the strike rate was relatively slow. In the middle order, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma were out early, which affected the run rate.
Kashvi Gautam and Richa Ghosh’s fruitful partnership
In the lower order, Kashvi Gautam played a fighting inning of 43 runs and wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh played an important role in taking the score beyond 200 by adding 23 runs. However, India could not build any big partnership due to wickets falling at regular intervals.
Disciplined performance by Australian bowlers
The bowling of the Kangaroo team was very consistent. Ashley Gardner took 3 wickets for 33 runs in 7 overs and broke the back of the Indian middle order. Apart from them Megan Shutt got two successes. Tahlia McGrath, Alana King, Darcy Brown and Sophie Molineau kept the run pace down with tight line-lengths, each taking 1 wicket each. All 5 bowlers conceded runs at a below par economy.
The match is headed towards Australia
A score of 214 runs can definitely be challenging in ODI cricket, but considering the Brisbane pitch and Australia’s strong batting, the visiting team will have to put extra pressure. Early wickets will be very important for the Indian bowlers, only then can they hope to make a comeback in the match.
Till the time of writing the news, the Australian women’s team has scored 69 runs at the loss of 2 wickets after 10 overs. Captain Alyssa Healy is present at the crease and has scored 25 runs in 44 balls, although her strike rate has been slow. On the other hand, Phoebe Litchfield played a useful inning of 32 runs in 32 balls, but she is out. Georgia Wall returned to the pavilion without opening the account, while wicketkeeper Beth Mooney is supporting Healy by scoring 7 runs. Indian bowler Shri Charani has given the first two blows. The powerplay went in favor of Australia but after that there has been discipline in the bowling from India, due to which Australia’s run rate seems to be under control at the moment.
