Who is the new leader of Iran?
- Ali Larijani has been an influential leader in Iranian politics and security for decades. He was one of the founding members of the IRGC and was the Speaker of the Parliament (Majlis) from 2008 to 2020. He was disqualified by clerical authorities from the 2021 and 2024 presidential elections. He has a vast network of military, administrative and political experience, making him one of the most trusted figures in Iran’s supreme leadership.
- Ali Larijani was born in 1957 in Najaf, Iraq. His family returned to Iran in 1961. His family is a reputed family with Shia religious background. His father Ayatollah Mirza Hashim Amoli was a well-known cleric of Iran. Family political and religious influence strengthened the foundation of Larijani’s life and career.
