Rinku Singh Returns Home Due To Family Emergency, May Miss T20 World Cup Match Vs Zimbabwe

Chennai: India batter Rinku Singh has had to leave the Team India camp because of a family emergency and is a doubtful starter for the hosts’ crucial clash against Zimbabwe on February 26.

The left-handed power-hitter travelled with the squad to Chennai on February 23, a day after India’s 76-run hammering at the hands of South Africa in the T20 World Cup Super 8 clash at Ahmedabad.

However, he was missing at the practice session on Tuesday.

India Today reported that Rinku left Chennai early on Tuesday to attend to his father Khanchand Singh, who is reportedly on life support in a Greater Noida hospital.

Rinku is yet to fire in the T20 World Cup, having managed scores of 6, 1, 11*, 6* and 0.

If he is not available for Thursday’s match against Zimbabwe, India will bring in Sanju Samson or Axar Patel, who was dropped for the South Africa match.

India need to beat Zimbabwe as well as the West Indies (March 1) by big margins to be in contention for a semifinal berth.
