Government Blocks 5 OTT Platforms: The Government of India has taken major action and blocked 5 OTT platforms showing obscene and objectionable content. This decision of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been taken to maintain morality and follow the rules in the digital world. The government has clearly warned that strict action against such wrong content will continue in future also.
Which five OTT apps Banned?
According to the ministry, such films and web series were being shown on these platforms which were full of obscenity and nudity scenes without any story or message. The government has blocked these apps named MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel and Jugnu under Section 69A of the IT Act 2000 for violating Indian laws and social decorum.
What instructions did the government give to internet companies?
- The government has given strict instructions to all internet companies like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea to immediately block these 5 platforms.
- This means that now you will not be able to open these apps or websites on any mobile, computer or device.
- Their route has been completely closed.
Five apps were banned even in March 2024
The government had warned many OTT platforms in September 2024 but some did not pay any attention to it. Some platforms simply changed their name or website address and started showing the same pornographic films again. Earlier in March 2024 also, five apps were closed, but they came back in a new form. Even in February 2025, the government asked everyone to follow the rules, but some platforms did not make improvements.

25 OTT apps also closed in July 2025
In July 2025 also, the government took similar action and closed 25 OTT apps and websites. These included platforms like ALTBalaji, ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite and Gulab App. They were accused of showing excessive sexual innuendo, nudity and objectionable material in their web series and videos, for which complaints were being received continuously.
