Epstein Files: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates says meeting sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was a ‘big mistake’, apologizes
New Delhi. The world’s leading industrialist and Bill Gates has now given clarification regarding his relations with the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Speaking to Gates Foundation staff at a town hall event, he admitted meeting Epstein was a ‘big mistake’. This information has been shared by the spokesperson of the Foundation.

According to the report of the American newspaper ‘The Wall Street Journal’, Gates told employees that it was a wrong decision to spend time with Epstein and also include foundation officials in those meetings. Citing the recording of the town hall, the report said that Gates said, “I apologize to those who were dragged into this because of my mistake.”
Important revelations in the documents of the Department of Justice
Documents released by the US Department of Justice revealed that Gates and Epstein met several times even after Epstein’s sentence was completed. The expansion of Gates’ philanthropic initiatives was discussed in these meetings.
According to the report, Gates also admitted that he had affairs with two Russian women, information about which Epstein later became aware. However, he clarified that these cases had no connection with Epstein’s victims. Gates told employees that he did not do anything illegal nor did he see anything illegal being done.

Clarification given on pictures also
The documents of the Department of Justice also include some photographs, in which Gates is seen with women. The faces of women have been blurred in these pictures. Gates told employees that the photos were taken at Epstein’s request after a meeting with his female assistants. He insisted, however, that he never spent any time with Epstein’s victims.
Foundation’s official statement
A spokesperson for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said the town hall was scheduled in advance, in which Gates answered questions on a range of issues, including the release of the Epstein Files. According to the spokesperson, Gates spoke openly and took responsibility for his decisions. The foundation also said that that is the official statement on the matter at the moment and it will not comment further. Earlier this month, the foundation clarified that it never made any financial payment to Epstein nor appointed him to any position.

Last week, Gates canceled his program hours before he was to deliver the keynote address at the AI Impact Summit to be held in India. However, nothing was officially said linking this decision to the Epstein case.
