‘May God give you wisdom…’, BJP ministers furious over raid on BSP’s Umashankar Singh’s house

The name of the only MLA of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh is Umashankar Singh. The Income Tax Department team raided the house of Umashankar Singh, MLA from Rasra assembly seat of Ballia district, on Wednesday morning. This action has created panic in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Now Uttar Pradesh government minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dinesh Pratap Singh has raised questions on this. He has written that may God give wisdom to such people and institutions. Dinesh Pratap Singh has also written that Umashankar’s health is bad and he has been struggling between life and death for two years.

On Wednesday morning, the Income Tax team reached the house of Umashankar Singh located in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow. Police personnel were also present along with a team of a dozen officers. These people examined the documents and electronic devices present in Umashankar’s house. No statement has been issued by the Income Tax Department regarding this, nor has it been told in which case this raid has been conducted.

Umashankar Singh, who is counted among the richest MLAs of Uttar Pradesh, is considered very close to Mayawati. He has been winning elections from Rasra continuously since 2012. A case against him is from the year 2013. Then Advocate Subhash Chandra Singh had filed a complaint against Umashankar in Lokayukta. The allegation was that despite becoming MLA, Umashankar Singh was taking PWD contracts and doing road construction work. After being found guilty in the same case, he lost his MLA in January 2015. However, later he became MLA again and won the elections in 2022 also.

Why did Dinesh Pratap Singh get angry?

Now raising questions on this raid, Dinesh Pratap Singh has written, ‘The house of Umashankar Singh MLA Rasra district Ballia, in whose house my daughter is married, is being raided by the Income Tax Department today. The politicians of the country and the state and all the institutions including the Income Tax Department know that Mr. Umashankar Singh has been struggling between life and death for more than two years. In the present circumstances, Mr. Umashankar Singh is spending all his time and money not in earning money but in saving his life. All businesses are almost closed. Today he is living in isolation at his residence. The assembly session is important for an MLA but he could not go even for an hour.

He further wrote, ‘At this time, even a nurse or doctor is not allowed to visit his house. If there is any harm to his life, then these insensitive institutions will be responsible. In such circumstances, even in the rarest of crimes, the honorable courts acquit the accused on the basis of mercy by accepting the petition. Even in these difficult times, what insensitive politician or organization can there be, who can think of causing pain even in such circumstances, may God give wisdom to such people and institutions.
