Khandelwal wrote that…

In support of the name change, Khandelwal wrote that excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Purana Fort have found evidence of ancient settlements dating back to around 1000 BCE, including remains of the Painted Gray Ware (PGW) culture, which is linked to the Mahabharata period. According to him, these discoveries reinforce the historical belief that ancient Indraprastha was located at the same place as Delhi today. Citing these facts, Khandelwal argues that the name Delhi came into use relatively late in the medieval period, which historians associate with names like Delhika or Dehli. But this does not indicate its origin and identification with an ancient culture.
