Neera started business after quitting her labor
The stall operator is W Kumar, resident of Ilara village of Bodh Gaya. W Kumar earlier used to work as a laborer in other states. The family was supported by daily wages. But when complete prohibition was implemented in Bihar and Neera was promoted, then he started making jaggery and sweets from Neera. W Kumar tells that for the first time in the year 2023, he prepared Tilkut by preparing Neera jaggery. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself had reached Ilara village to see their work.
Less sweet and healthy option
W Kumar says that Tilakut made from Neera is prepared like normal Tilakut. The only difference is that instead of sugar or traditional jaggery, jaggery made from neera is used. According to him, this Tilkut is not very sweet. For this reason diabetic patients are also liking it. After tasting it once, customers definitely come back to buy again. Initially W Kumar used to do this work alone. But now his family members are also involved in this work. Jaggery and its products are being prepared from Neera on a large scale in the village. This has also strengthened the economy of the village.
received support from the government
According to W Kumar, on the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the district administration has provided special counters for sale in Bodhgaya and Gaya. During the season of Tilkut, more than 150 kg of Neera Tilkut is being sold daily. This year, jaggery has been prepared from more than one lakh liters of Neera.
Good sales in Saras fair also
He also got a stall in the Saras fair organized at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. There daily sales of 70 to 100 kilograms of Tilkut were recorded. Talking about the price, while normal Tilkut is sold for Rs 360 to 380 per kg, Neera Tilkut is sold for Rs 400 to 410 per kg.
