Mother puts 2 month old baby in burning stove – Obnews
In a horrific incident in Medchal-Malkajgiri district of Telangana, a two-month-old baby named Surya was allegedly killed by his mother at a construction workers’ camp in Baurampet (Quthbullapur, Dundigal police station limits) on February 24, 2026.
The parents, Mamta Ahirwar (20-22) and Rajendra Adivasi (21), came from Madhya Pradesh and worked as laborers at the Sanareli apartment site, living in a temporary room. Police said the child cried continuously for several days, causing the mother – reportedly upset – to stuff a cloth in his mouth, tie his hands and feet, and place him in a burning wood stove, causing his instant death from suffocation and burns.
When the father returned, he saw all this and tried to intervene, but it was too late. Amidst the argument the neighbors informed the police. Both parents were arrested and remanded in custody. The body was sent to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem, and the mother’s mental health problems or post-delivery reasons are being investigated.
In a separate incident, two people were killed in a motorcycle-tanker collision in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills on the morning of February 23. Home guard Syed Hussain (40-45), posted at Santosh Nagar traffic police station and also worked as a Rapido driver, was carrying 20-year-old Akshita (from Vizianagaram) when a speeding water tanker hit his bike from behind near Vengal Rao Park/Road No. 1.
Both died of their injuries at NIMS Hospital. Banjara Hills police registered a case under rash/reckless driving rules, seized the tanker (the driver was detained after fleeing), and are examining the evidence. These incidents highlight the urgent concerns around the well-being of children, mental health support for vulnerable families and road safety in urban areas.
