PM Modi Awarded Knesset Speaker’s Medal, Calls It a Symbol of India–Israel Friendship
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented with the prestigious Speaker of the Knesset Medal, one of the highest distinctions granted by Israel’s Parliament. The recognition highlights his role in strengthening ties between India and Israel and advancing cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.
The honour was conferred by the Knesset in acknowledgement of Modi’s leadership and sustained engagement with Israeli counterparts. Officials cited his contribution in elevating bilateral relations into a broad strategic partnership covering defence, security, technology, innovation, and expanding people to people connections.
Accepting the award, Modi described it as recognition of the enduring bond between the two democracies rather than a personal accolade. In a message shared publicly, he said he was deeply honoured and accepted the medal with humility and gratitude. He emphasized that the distinction reflects the shared values guiding both nations and the strength of their long standing partnership.

Modi’s diplomatic outreach in West Asia has also included balanced engagement with Palestine. In 2018, he received the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine, the highest civilian award presented by the Palestinian leadership to foreign dignitaries, acknowledging India’s support for Palestinian aspirations alongside its close ties with Israel.

Earlier in the day, Modi addressed the Knesset, speaking about regional peace and stability. He referenced the Gaza Peace Initiative led by the Trump administration, stating that it offers the promise of a just and durable solution, including progress on the Palestinian issue. He noted that dialogue remains essential and reiterated India’s support for efforts that promote peace and stability across the region.
Referring to shifting dynamics in West Asia, Modi spoke about the Abraham Accords and the hope they initially generated, while acknowledging that current conditions have become more complex. He reaffirmed India’s support for Israel during challenging times and underlined the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations.
The visit also featured a ceremonial reception at Ben Gurion Airport, where Modi was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sara Netanyahu. The ceremony underscored the warmth of bilateral relations and the continued expansion of collaboration between New Delhi and Jerusalem.
