From 2006 To 2026 Prime Minister Modi’s Visit To Israel Has Always Been Historic
According to ‘Modi Archive’, Narendra Modi visited Israel for the first time in 2006 as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He accompanied an Indian delegation to ‘Agritech-2006’, Israel’s largest international agricultural technology exhibition, which included Chief Ministers and senior officials representing India’s agriculture sector.
As Chief Minister, Narendra Modi presented Gujarat’s agricultural vision at the India-Israel Business Forum with the slogan ‘One drop more crop’. Perhaps this was the first time that he said this in public, which later became the official motto of ‘Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana’. The internal report of the Gujarat delegation stated that his presentation received ‘the highest applause and praise’.
After 11 years, in 2017, Narendra Modi visited Israel as Prime Minister. This was the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister. Modi Archive states, “The agriculture theme that was prevalent in 2006 continued this time too.”
It said that during this visit, Prime Minister Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu visited Danziger Flower Farm in Tel Aviv. Here Israel’s Leading Flower Genetics Company had created a new white chrysanthemum and named it ‘Modi’. Floriculture is one of Israel’s most advanced agricultural export sectors. The visit to the flower farm was indicative of how far Israeli agricultural innovation has come.
It further said that the 3-year work program in agriculture sector signed during the visit was the formal institutionalization of the initiative which Narendra Modi, as Chief Minister, had personally launched at Agritech-2006. ‘Modi Archive’ states that the relationship that Narendra Modi had worked on as Chief Minister became the ‘government-to-government’ framework as Prime Minister.
Later, during his address to the Indian diaspora in Tel Aviv, PM Modi said that Israel’s cooperation in the agriculture sector can help India in its second green revolution.
The ‘Modi Archive’ said that the link connecting the visits of 2006 and 2017 is agriculture and water resources management. Both countries were working on similar problems from different perspectives. India had vast scale, agricultural land and requirement.
It said that when he arrived in 2017, the agricultural cooperation agenda was not suddenly prepared by officials preparing for the state visit. Its outline had started forming from an afternoon in May 2006, when Narendra Modi, as Chief Minister, gave a presentation to more than a thousand international delegates at ‘Agritech-2006’ and returned with the confidence of what India and Israel could create together.
After 9 years, again in 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Israel. This time too the India-Israel agenda is expected to focus on agriculture, water management and food security.
