Today’s generation may know him less, but there was a time when his popularity was at its peak and till date no hero of the Kapoor family has broken his record of hit films. Found.
The Kapoor family’s roots remained linked to Peshawar. Prithviraj Kapoor was the elder son of the head of the family, Dewan Basheshwarnath Kapoor, who made his mark in the world of acting, but Trilok Kapoor, born from the second wife of Dewan Saheb, became the first member of the family who ruled the screen as a hero. After leaving Peshawar in the year 1928, he reached Calcutta. At the same time, his passion for acting awakened and the environment of the freedom movement gave a new direction to his personality.
He started his career in the year 1933 with the film Chaar Darvesh. After this, the film Sita gave him recognition in which his brother Prithviraj Kapoor was also seen. Gradually Trilok Kapoor became one of the popular stars of the 1930s and 1940s. It seems as if the decade of 1950s was in his name when he gave successful films one after the other. The special thing was that he played the roles of God in many mythological films and the audience accepted him with faith and reverence. His popularity at that time was such that if there was social media like today, he would have been a trending star. In his career he gave about 30 hit films and this figure still remains a record for the Kapoor family.
Cinema changed with time and in the 1970s, Trilok Kapoor moved away from lead roles and started playing character roles. He worked in many important films which included films like Toofan and Dostana. In the film Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, he played the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s father and once again made his strong presence felt.
His personal life was also related to cinema. His elder son Vijay Kapoor became a director and directed films. Trilok Kapoor died in 1988 but his legacy is still recorded in the history of Indian cinema.
Whenever the Kapoor family is discussed, along with Raj Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor or Ranbir Kapoor, the name of the first hero who laid the foundation of this legacy will also be taken. Trilok Kapoor was not just an actor but he was a symbol of faith, popularity and stardom of that era whose shine has not faded even after the passage of time.
