Uttar Pradesh: SP celebrates Kanshi Ram Jayanti as ‘PDA Day’
Before the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party has intensified its efforts to tap the Dalit vote bank. In this sequence, the party has made a big announcement regarding the birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram.
UP Politics: Political activities have intensified before the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The state’s main opposition party Samajwadi Party (SP) has taken an important step towards helping the Dalits and backward classes. The party has announced that this year Kanshi Ram Jayanti will be celebrated as ‘PDA Day’.
This decision has come at a time when competition for Dalit votes has intensified in state politics. SP President Akhilesh Yadav has sent a letter to party officials and public representatives and directed that programs should be organized in every district of the state on March 15.
What is PDA formula?
PDA stands for Backward, Dalit and Minority. Akhilesh Yadav had presented this social equation as a political strategy during the 2024 general elections. The party claims that the positive effect of this formula was seen and SP received the support of a large number of OBC and Dalit communities.
Now taking this strategy forward, SP is preparing for the 2027 assembly elections. Political analysts believe that in a large and socially diverse state like Uttar Pradesh, caste and social equations have a decisive impact on election results.
Effort to keep Kanshi Ram’s legacy at the center
Kanshi Ram, who was the founder of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), is counted among the prominent faces of the Dalit movement in Indian politics. The letter issued by SP mentioned that Kanshi Ram had launched a nationwide movement in support of the recommendations of the Mandal Commission and had given a new direction to the politics of social justice.
The SP leadership also reminded that there was an alliance between Kanshi Ram and party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav in 1993, which brought a big change in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. During that period, the politics of social justice and Bahujan unity had got a strong base.
Programs and tribute meetings in every district
As per the instructions of the party, programs will be organized across the state on March 15 as ‘PDA Day’. In these programs, tribute will be paid to Kanshi Ram and issues of social justice, brotherhood and equal representation will be discussed. The aim of SP is to bring Dalit, backward and minority communities on one platform through these events. The party wants to send the message that it is committed to the politics of social justice and respects the Bahujan ideology.
After the decline in the electoral strength of BSP in recent years, the activism of other parties regarding Dalit vote bank has increased. SP is constantly trying to indicate that it is a real well-wisher of Dalits and deprived classes.
