Vietnam’s newest carrier Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) on Feb. 25 officially launched new air routes linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Da Nang, providing additional options on the country’s key air corridors.

The airline’s first commercial flight from Hanoi departed at 6:15 a.m. from Noi Bai International Airport and landed in Da Nang later the same morning. The flight from Ho Chi Minh City took off at 10:30 a.m. from Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Under its operational plan, the Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang route will operate two flights per day. On the Hanoi – Da Nang route, the airline will also run two flights per day, with plans to increase the frequency to four flights daily from March 1 to meet market demand.

SPA’s entry into the Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang corridor expands choices in airlines, flight schedules and services for residents and tourists while strengthening connectivity among the country’s major economic and tourism hubs.

The airline plans to launch the Da Nang – Phu Quoc route from March 15, gradually completing its network linking large tourist destinations.

It noted that the expansion of the route network is part of its development strategy, with Phu Quoc serving as the central hub. By the end of February, the airline had operated a fleet of 10 aircraft and secured all safety and maintenance certificates in accordance with regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

On Feb. 18, Sun PhuQuoc Airways signed an agreement to purchase 40 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft in a deal valued at about US$22.5 billion in Washington D.C. The agreement provides a foundation for opening long-haul routes in the future and developing a large-scale fleet by 2030, the carrier said.

The launch of the new routes is expected to help promote trade and tourism among Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang while enhancing linkages among the country’s key tourism centers.
