What is Fitra? Why is it considered important in Ramadan?

The month of Ramadan is considered very important in the religion of Islam. Charitable works are considered important this month. Fitra (Zakat-ul-Fitr) is one of these donations. Fitra is one of the important acts of charity in Islam, which is mandatory to be performed at the end of the holy month of Ramadan i.e. before the prayers of Eid-ul-Fitr. This is not just a financial help, but it is a means to complete the fast.

It is believed that if the fasting person commits any minor mistake or mistake during Ramadan, then Fitra works to correct it. In Islam, Fitra is mandatory on every Muslim who has more property or food than his needs.

Why is Fitra considered important?

The head of the Fitra family pays this on behalf of himself as well as the younger children and dependents of his family. Its core message is social equality so that no one remains hungry on the day of Eid and every person can celebrate the festival with dignity. Its importance can be understood in such a way that being a human being, sometimes unnecessary things or small mistakes are made during fasting. Fitra removes these shortcomings and makes fasting acceptable to Allah.

Eid is considered a festival of happiness. Fitra ensures that even the poor section of the society can wear new clothes and enjoy good food. It reduces the gap between the rich and the poor of the society. It also promotes the feeling of brotherhood.

It is believed that this is a way of thanking Allah for giving him the strength to complete the month of Ramadan properly.

How much has to be paid?

The amount of fitra is usually about 2.045 kg of wheat per person or equal to its market price. It can also be given in the form of dates, barley or raisins.

When should it be given?

It is mandatory to give it in the last days of Ramadan or before Eid prayers. Donation given after Namaz is considered normal Sadaqah, not Fitra.

Who can be given Fitra?

Fitrah should be given only to those who truly deserve it. Like the poor and needy, orphan children or people who do not have food on the day of Eid.

Main differences between Zakat and Fitra

The biggest difference is in their calculation and time of delivery. Zakat is 2.5% of the total accumulated wealth. It can be given any time of the year when its conditions are fulfilled. Whereas Fitra is a fixed amount for every person. It is necessary to give it before Eid namaz.

The purpose of Zakat is to reduce long-term poverty and help the needy. Whereas the purpose of Fitra is that the happiness of Eid should reach every poor and no one should remain sad on the day of Eid.

Zakat is obligatory only on those people whose assets exceed the Nisab. It is necessary to give Fitra on every able-bodied Muslim family.
