The Kerala Story 2 Censor Board Imposed 16 Cuts: The film ‘The Kerala Story 2’, produced by Vipul Shah, is stuck in a maze of controversies even before its release. On one hand, there is a legal battle going on regarding this film based on sensitive issues like love jihad and forced religious conversion, while on the other hand, the Censor Board (CBFC) has given the green signal to it with a strict stance. The film has been given U/A 16+ certificate, but the makers had to pay a heavy price for this.

Censor Board’s scissors made 16 cuts

Considering the sensitivity of the film, the Censor Board has given instructions to make 16 important changes and cuts in it. The board has used scissors on the most controversial and violent scenes of the film-

  • The kissing visuals shown in the film have been reduced by 50%, while a lip-lock scene was shortened by 7 seconds.
  • The rape scene has been reduced by 20 seconds. Apart from this, the scenes in which women are assaulted and hit on the head have also been cut.
  • Instructions have been given to change the visuals of the accused’s house being demolished with a bulldozer.
  • Dialogues have been changed at three places and one word has been muted. Also, the duration of the disclaimer stating that the film is ‘based on true events’ has been extended by 2 minutes and 3 seconds, which will also include the voice over.

After these changes, the total duration of the film is now 2 hours 11 minutes 24 seconds.

Allegations of political turmoil and ‘propaganda’

There is tremendous turmoil in the political circles regarding the film. Congress, SP and many political analysts have demanded a ban on it. At the same time, famous Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap has strongly criticized the film, calling it ‘nonsense propaganda’. He has also made a scathing attack on the film’s director Kamakhya Narayan Singh.

The Kerala Story 2 release date

The film is set to release in theaters on February 27, but its fate is in the hands of the Kerala High Court. The court will watch a special screening of the film on Wednesday, February 25, after which it will be decided whether the film will be released on its scheduled date or not. The court is also hearing petitions demanding cancellation of the censor certificate.
