Harry Brook’s 50-ball century knocks Pakistan out of T20 World Cup 2026
In a historic night in Kandy, England captain Harry Brook smashed a sensational 51-ball century to secure a two-wicket victory over Pakistan, officially propelling England into the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals.
Promoted to number three for the first time, Brook became the first captain in history to score a hundred in a T20 World Cup, a feat that has sparked a wave of viral “fan-cam” edits and ICC reaction clips across social media.
The chase of 165 began in disaster for England as Shaheen Shah Afridi ripped through the top order, leaving them reeling at 58/4. However, Brook remained immovable, dismantling the Pakistani attack with ten fours and four sixes.
Reflecting on the bold tactical shift, Brook revealed, “Baz came to me in the morning and said we may change it up and put you up at No.3. We have spoken about being able to adapt and the bravery to do that was great.”
While Brook was eventually bowled for exactly 100 by Afridi, the damage was done.
Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, admitted, “The way Harry Brook batted was outstanding. He completely took the game away from us.”
Even Afridi showed his respect with a post-dismissal handshake, later calling it a “world-class knock.”
With this defeat, Pakistan’s semi-final hopes are now virtually extinguished, requiring a miracle from other results to stay alive.
